A chart designed to inspire high-stakes adventure/thriller narratives—think Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, &c.—using three primary components: a Mythos, Plot Device and Threat.

Mythos

The Mythos is the setting's conceit: the latter half of a sentence starting with "in a world where..."

Plot Device

The Plot Device represents some thing that drives the plot.

They manifest in a variety of forms in narratives.

Threat

Threats come in a variety of shapes and forms.

All threats are driven by a personal motive (or the motive of something else).

Relic: an object or other concrete thing—magical or mundane—characterized by its ability to influence the world.

Time: a discrete event, deadline, starting line or span of time.

Business: a corporation or business, blithely ignorant or entirely evil, acting in its owners' or its own self-interest.

Conspiracy: a secret society or organization pulling the strings behind something, and capable of punching well above its weight.

Cult: an organization characterized by fanatical dedication to a particular goal.

Foil: a mirror image of the hero, often acting in competition with them.

Government: something capable of leveraging the power of law to effect change.
